TDC Ghana Ltd has cautioned individuals and groups against the growing practice of unlawfully occupying parcels of public land within the Tema Acquisition Area (TAA).

According to the company, some people have been clearing or filling public lands, assuming ownership, and later approaching TDC for regularisation.

Management, however, stressed that it will not be compelled to recognise any such unauthorised occupation or development.

In a statement, TDC reminded the public that the unlawful occupation of public lands constitutes a breach of Section 236 of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), which clarifies that long-term possession of public land does not confer ownership rights. Persons who build or occupy such lands without lawful authority, the company warned, risk punishment under the law.

TDC outlined the proper process for acquiring land, which includes a formal application to the company, due diligence checks, issuance of an offer letter, acceptance and payment, followed by official allocation and approval of development drawings before seeking a permit from the relevant District Assembly.

“Any person who unlawfully takes possession of land without following the above process does so at their own risk,” the statement emphasised.
