Fisheries minister visits Tema Harbour after closed season

Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson has inspected the Tema Harbour after the long closed season in the Greater Accra Region.
While on the inspection, the minister explained that the reason for the closed season was to allow more fish and fingerlings to mature.
She added that an engagement with those who are not complying with the closed season has been done for them to understand its purpose.
However, she warned that non-conformists will be dealt with by the law.
Ms Koomson also stressed that there is a need for Ghana's resources to be properly managed for future generations and to make sure the appropriate nets are used for fishing in the country.
The Director of Research of the Fisheries Commission, Mr Emmanuel Kwame Dovlo, said the reason behind the inspection was to make sure the right and appropriate nets are used for fishing before fishers depart to sea.
He said after this pre-departure inspection, a port inspection will be continually done to ensure compliance
