The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the start of a nationwide enforcement exercise to ensure that all licensed gold buyers issue official GoldBod receipts during purchase and sale transactions.

The regulatory move, which came into effect today, requires aggregators, self-financed aggregators, as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers to issue receipts for every gold trading transaction.

GoldBod says the receipts are now a critical condition for validating transactions in the sector.

To guarantee compliance, a special GoldBod Taskforce supported by field inspectors has been deployed across the country. Licensed buyers are expected to keep their receipt booklets readily available for checks and to cooperate with the inspectors.

The board has also urged licensed small-scale miners and gold traders to demand GoldBod receipts for every purchase they make.

GoldBod cautioned that failure by buyers to issue receipts will be treated as a serious offence and could result in severe sanctions, including suspension or outright revocation of trading licenses.

Gold remains one of Ghana’s top foreign exchange earners, and regulators believe that enforcing the receipt system will help curb illegal trading, improve revenue collection, and enhance accountability in the sector.
