Gov't inaugurates task force to oversee establishment of Ghana’s national airline

As part of ongoing efforts to revamp Ghana’s aviation sector, the government has inaugurated a high-level Task Force to spearhead the establishment of a new National Airline.

The move aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to accelerate the operationalisation of a national carrier under Ghana’s aviation development agenda.

The newly formed Task Force brings together seasoned professionals from across the aviation industry, public service, and legal sectors.

It is chaired by Mr. Charles Asare, former Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, with Mr. Twumasi Ankra Selby, an aviation industry expert, serving as Vice Chairman.

Mr. Hugh Tamakloe, Aviation Industry Expert

Mr. Benjamin Ahiljah, Aviation Industry Expert

Rev. Stephen Arthur, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority

Madam Patricia Bonsu, Aviation Industry Expert

Madam Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Lawyer and Former Deputy Minister for Transport

Mr. Daniel Acquah, Former Deputy Director-General (Technical) of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority

A representative from the Ministry of Transport

The Task Force has been charged with finalising the business model and operational framework of the airline, engaging with strategic and technical partners, overseeing regulatory certification, and coordinating critical start-up components, including staffing, fleet acquisition, and route planning.

The Ministry of Transport has been instructed to provide the Task Force with full administrative support to ensure the timely and efficient execution of its mandate.

Additionally, the team is expected to submit periodic progress reports and recommendations to the Office of the President.
