The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto -Ablakwa, has confirmed plans by the government to revive the Juapong Textiles factory under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, a move expected to significantly boost Ghana’s textile industry and create thousands of jobs.

Mr Ablakwa disclosed this during a Christmas feast organised for children in his constituency, where he shared updates on the government’s commitment to restoring collapsed local industries and strengthening domestic production.

According to him, the revival agenda has received strong backing from the Trade and Industry Ministry, with an investor already identified to partner government in bringing Juapong Textiles—also known as Jorbon Textiles—back to life.

He noted that the initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision of revitalising strategic State-Owned Enterprises to drive industrial growth and employment.

The North Tongu MP indicated that once operational, the factory could create over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, helping to reduce unemployment and curb the export of jobs through excessive importation of finished textile products.

He further explained that the long-term viability of Juapong Textiles would be strengthened by a structured demand system, including the supply of uniforms to state institutions such as the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Armed Forces, schools, Immigration Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Mr Ablakwa emphasised that reviving local industries like Juapong Textiles would not only boost manufacturing but also conserve foreign exchange, strengthen local supply chains, and enhance Ghana’s self-reliance.

The disclosure echoes earlier assurances by the Member of Parliament for Krowor and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who has also confirmed that the Trade Minister is fully on board with the revival agenda.

The announcement was met with excitement by constituents who attended the Christmas event, as the MP reiterated his commitment to development, job creation, and improving livelihoods across North Tongu.
