Kejetia market fire: NPP donates GHS100,000 to affected traders

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has donated an amount of GHS100,000 to traders who were affected by the Kumasi Kejetia market fire.
The donation was presented to the traders by the General Secretary of the party, Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua, on Monday, 20 March 2023, when he visited the fire scene to empathise with the victims.
Mr Kodua visited the scene together with the National Organiser, Mr Henry Nana Boakye, and the National Women's Organiser, Kate Gyemfua.
Mr Kodua said they were in the market to show sympathy to the affected traders and to let them feel that the party and the government are with them in time of their troubles.
Some parts of the market got burnt on Thursday, 16 March 2023.
The blaze started in one of the shops on the last floor of the market around 4:30 pm that day and spread to other shops.
Firefighters who were called to the scene were able to confine the fire and put it under control from further spreading.
Property amounting to thousands of Ghana cedis were burnt in the marketm which was opened for business in 2021.
A rope was used to rescue traders who had been trapped on the last floor of the market before a crane machine was brought to their rescue.
