NPA opens 1000-capacity BRV parking terminal
Business
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Alhassan Tampuli has opened a Bulk Road Vehicle (BRV) parking terminal at Kpone, Tema.
The construction of the parking lot started in 2014 and can contain 1000 BRVs.
The facility, the first of its kind in the West African sub-region, is about three kilometres away from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), the loading point.
The BRV terminal would prevent the indiscriminate parking of long vehicles on the flanks of the narrow road to TOR, a situation that has continuously posed safety risks to road users.
Mr Isaac Osei, Managing Director of TOR, who read a speech on behalf of the Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu, commended the NPA and the Ghana Tanker Drivers and Owners Association for the collaboration, which has seen the completion of the BRV terminal.
He said the government is committed to ensuring that the cost and high health risk of transporting such flammable products were reduced by the rehabilitation of rail lines and the introduction of water transport.
For his part, Mr George Teye Nyaunu, the National Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, commended the NPA for the facility.
