Q2 2024: UAE, Switzerland, SA are Ghana’s top 3 export destinations – GSS
Ghana's exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached GH₵15 billion in the second quarter of 2024, securing its position as the country’s top export destination, according to the latest figures from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The UAE accounted for 23.3% of Ghana's total exports during this period.
Switzerland followed closely behind with exports worth GH₵13.2 billion, making up 20.5% of the total, while South Africa ranked third with GH₵8.3 billion, representing 12.9%.
On the import side, gas oil and motor spirit super dominated Ghana’s market, together contributing 24.7% of the total import value of GH₵58.8 billion, at GH₵7.3 billion and GH₵7.2 billion, respectively.
China remained Ghana’s largest import partner, supplying GH₵12.3 billion worth of goods, or 20.9% of total imports.
The UAE ranked second with GH₵9.1 billion (15.4%), followed by the United Kingdom at GH₵5.2 billion (8.8%).
The Export and Import Unit Value Indices (UVIs) also highlighted significant price changes, with export prices surging 40.5% year-on-year, driven largely by rising gold prices. Meanwhile, import prices rose by 18.9%.
