The Minister of Finance of Sierra Leone, Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, as part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the remarkable success of Ghana’s Gold Board (GoldBod) in regulating and formalising the small-scale gold mining sector.

They also explored how Sierra Leone could adopt elements of the model to drive sustainable economic growth and boost revenue generation.

Mr. Bangura commended the Gold Board’s achievements in transforming Ghana’s gold sector into a more structured and transparent industry, while creating jobs and contributing significantly to the national economy.

For his part, Mr. Gyamfi expressed Ghana’s readiness to share best practices and provide technical support to Sierra Leone in developing a similar framework.

He stressed that regional collaboration in mineral resource management would not only strengthen economies but also promote responsible mining across West Africa.

The visit, according to officials, marks the beginning of closer bilateral cooperation in the extractive sector, with both countries committing to deepen knowledge exchange and explore joint opportunities in mining and resource governance.
