Western Regional House of Chiefs applauds cedi recovery

The President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Essikado, Nana Kwabena Nketia V, has commended the recent recovery of the Ghanaian Cedi, describing it as a welcome sign of economic relief for the nation.
During a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama, Nana Nketia urged the government to complete all abandoned development projects in the Western Region.
He also welcomed the establishment of a new manganese processing plant, noting that it would provide much-needed employment opportunities for the youth in the area.
In addition, the traditional leader called on the government to consider banning rubber imports as a measure to protect Ghana’s environment.
He expressed concern over worsening land degradation in the region, largely attributed to illegal mining activities, and applauded the efforts of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in combating the menace.
He pledged the full support of the Western Regional House of Chiefs in the national fight against galamsey.
President Mahama, in response, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and said traditional leaders would play a stronger role in local governance under his leadership.
He stressed that chiefs are vital partners in environmental protection, cultural preservation, and community development.
The President also announced that under the 'Big Push' infrastructure agenda, strategic road projects across the Western Region will be prioritised to enhance transportation, improve trade, and stimulate local economies.
On industrialisation, he reiterated his government’s plan to add value to Ghana’s mineral resources, including manganese and bauxite, before export.
According to him, this strategy will help generate more revenue for the country and create sustainable jobs for the youth.
