2024 BET Awards: Tyla, Tems bag 3 trophies for Africa

South Africa's Tyla has been pronounced the 2024 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Best International Act.

The R&B singer was honoured at the Sunday, June 30, event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

For the aforementioned category, she beat off competition from compatriot Focalistic, Asake (Nigeria), Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Aya Nakamura (France), Tiakola (France), BK’ (Brazil), Karol Conká (Brazil), Cleo Sol (UK), and RAYE (UK).

Again, the Jump hitmaker won the Best New Artist honour, overcoming Ayra Starr (Nigeria), 41 (America), 4Batz (America), Bossman Dlow (America), Fridayy (America), October London (America), and Sexyy Red (America). 

Another win for Africa came via Nigeria's Tems when she received the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her Me & U hit.

The BET Awards is to celebrate achievements in entertainment and honours music, sports, television, and movies.

This year, actress, author, and producer Taraji P. Henson hosted.
