Ama K Abrebrese criticises appointment of men with sexual misconduct allegations to high office
A prominent Ghanaian actress and media advocate, Ama k Abrebrese, has sparked widespread conversation online after condemning the appointment of men with documented histories or allegations of sexual assault and harassment to high-level governmental positions.
In a strongly worded social media post, she argued that no “serious country” would elevate individuals facing such allegations into leadership roles.
According to her, doing so sends a dangerous message that men can mistreat women and still be rewarded with power and influence.
She wrote that placing such individuals in public office undermines efforts to protect women, reinforces a culture of silence, and erodes trust in national leadership.
“It sends the message that men can abuse female and be rewarded.
Do better, Ghana,” she emphasised.
Her comments have triggered mixed reactions, with many Ghanaians echoing her concerns about accountability and the need for stronger ethical standards in public appointments.
Others have called for due process and clarity regarding allegations before conclusions are drawn.
The discussion comes at a time when advocacy groups continue to push for stricter vetting procedures, gender-sensitive governance, and stronger protections for survivors of abuse.
The debate is expected to intensify as more voices weigh in on the broader issue of morality, justice, and leadership integrity in Ghana’s political landscape.
