December in GH increasing HIV infections – Sonnie Badu urges sensitisation, self-control
Sonnie Badu has asked for the beefing up of sensitisation concerning sexually transmitted diseases during the end of year and start of year festive season, alias December in GH.
He spoke to Nana Romeo on Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra 100.5 FM.
The Gospel star observed that during the successful “Year of Return, Beyond the Return and December in GH” programmes, which have drawn throngs into Ghana, a lot of indiscriminate sex is had.
“HIV infections are really skyrocketing. Why? It’s because we’ve opened our arms every December for everybody to come into the country. This is why we’re rising high on the HIV chart,” he said.
“People from all over the world save money every year to go to Ghana in December. We’re like a tourist nation and this is the reason our HIV counts are going high. We have to do something about this else, it will not be long, you will have sexual relations with someone, not knowing their orientation, and eventually catch a disease,” the pastor and author cautioned.
He warned revellers to note the health care system is hugely flawed in Ghana, and may, therefore, not be able to handle an unfortunate avalanche of HIV-AIDS infections, especially when “even the pregnant woman does not have a place in the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
“You the one who caught HIV having while having fun on the beach, they will throw you into a dustbin.”
Sonnie Badu asked that the alarming charts covering HIV-AIDS infections be broadcast widely for awareness creation and deterrence.
He urged individuals to use protection, also.
Ultimately, however, he advocated discipline and abstinence.
