Fonye Hydraulix – How a sought-after producer became a singer; ‘I was so bored’
Describing how he pens his songs, music-producer-turned-singer-songwriter Fonye has said he taps into “deep thoughts in the subconscious and then I try to make it into a mainstream song”.
He spoke on the Class Morning Show on Class 91.3 FM, hosted by Prince Benjamin (PB).
“I started music through Covid,” he revealed. “I never planned to be an artiste.”
He said “I was so bored” during the pandemic and its lockdown, therefore, “I started writing songs”.
A respected music producer, he argued every producer has it in him or her to become a recording artiste.
“You just have to find your sound,” he said, adding it took him a while to plan and craft his.
Clarifying that before 2020, he was just a producer, he said he was “thankful” for all the acts he had worked with so far: “Reggie Rockstone, Kontihene, Coded (4X4), Stonebwoy, and the names go on and on.”
“I’ve done my part, in terms of contributing to this industry,” Fonye stressed, explaining he ventured into singing because “I had so many things in my head and I felt I had to put it into music”.
He highlighted how excited he is to be “on a song with the legendary Sena Dagadu” after only “three years”.
Sometimes called Hydraulix, he emphasised how “humbling” it was for him, “a producer to have the voice to have my own music and even be strong enough to have a collaboration with Sena Dagadu”.
Easy is a collaboration between Fonye and Sena Dagadu, exploring conflict resolution in romance.
