The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence previously handed to Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to just one year, following a review of her case.

According to reports by classfm, the court ruled that the initial punishment was harsh and excessive, leading to a significant reduction of her sentence to 12 months.

Agradaa’s legal troubles began after she was convicted for charlatanic advertising and defrauding by false pretenses. On July 3, 2025, the Accra Circuit Court found her guilty of misleading thousands of followers with claims that she possessed supernatural “money-doubling” powers.

Prosecutors told the court that she used television broadcasts and social media platforms to promote an all-night church service, where attendees were promised financial miracles. More than 1,000 people reportedly handed over large sums of money with the hope of receiving multiplied returns. However, they allegedly left empty-handed, with many suffering financial losses.

Following the conviction, Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years in prison, a decision that quickly sparked widespread public debate.

Her lawyers, however, argued that the trial process was flawed and described the sentence as excessive. In December 2025, they filed an appeal at the Amasaman High Court, insisting that the evidence presented did not justify such a lengthy jail term.

After reviewing the case, the High Court agreed to reduce the sentence, a ruling that has reignited discussions among the public about the fairness and proportionality of the punishment.
