I'm returning to where my ancestors left; working on my Ghanaian citizenship – Ron Kenoly

Legendary American Gospel music act Ron Kenoly has revealed plans to become a resident in Ghana and also become a Ghanaian citizen.
In an interview, he explained that he has traced his roots to the West African country and also he enjoys the hospitality he receives anytime he visits.
“My purpose of being here is to become a resident of Ghana and eventually become a citizen of Ghana," Kenoly said.
"For the last week, I’ve been filling out forms and documents to gain residency and eventually to be your brother, a Ghanaian citizen,” he told a 3News rep at Harvest Praise 2023.
“My ancestors came from these parts of Africa to go to America and so now we are returning,” he noted.
According to the 78-year-old, his first visit to Ghana was in 1997.
During this visit, his findings about his roots led him to "assume that we are Fantes,” upon learning that his ancestors were part of people who were taken abroad from the Central Region, specifically Elmina as part of the Slave Trade in 1836.
He revealed this in a 2011 interview with Accra-based Adom FM.
Apparently, the renowned worship leader has also adopted a local name, Kweku, corresponding, as is tradition with his perceived Akan heritage, with the day on which he was born – Wednesday.
