Kayso laments: GHS 0 from ‘Grind Day’, other Ground Up, Chale projects despite building Kwesi Arthur’s career
Ghanaian record producer Kayso has made a startling revelation, disclosing that he earned nothing from his early music projects, including the megahit Grind Day and other songs from that period.
His statement comes amid ongoing allegations by rapper Kwesi Arthur that music executive Glen Boateng’s label, Ground Up, Chale, engaged in exploitative practices that allegedly put Kwesi Arthur’s well-being at risk.
Reflecting on his experience, Kayso said the main takeaway was learning to be vigilant about intellectual property and contractual agreements.
“For the record, I made GHC 0 from Grind Day and the songs from that period. It was a learning experience that shaped how I approach ownership and agreements today,” he wrote on X, Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Kayso emphasised his good intentions, selfless dedication, and role in developing Kwesi Arthur’s commercially and critically acclaimed career at Ground Up, Chale, lamenting he and other talents at the label received no personal rewards for their efforts.
“We all came in with good faith, I treated Ground Up like my business. I even brought Kwesi Arthur in and helped develop his career. There was enough for everyone to win. I will always claim what’s mine, but it’s disappointing to look back at how things played out,” Kayso added.
His remarks add further context to the ongoing debate in the Ghanaian music industry over contract fairness and the protection of artists’ rights, particularly for those navigating the early stages of their careers.
