TGMAs 2024 Best Rap Performance – I’m biased towards Fimfim and his ‘Boasiako’

Veteran music producer and executive Fred Kyei Mensah

Fimfim “did a stunning job” on his Boasiako song, ace record producer Fred Kyei Mensah has said.

He spoke to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Entertainment Capital on Accra 100.5 FM, Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Fimfim, “paid tribute to the artistes, producers, executive producers, background vocalists, radio presenters,” Fred Kyei Mensah, alias Fredyma, observed.

On who deserves the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024 Best Rap Performance title, he declared, “I’ll be biased here [and] give the accolade to Fimfim [for his Boasiako song] before Amerado and Eno Barony – if any of them wins, I don’t have a problem.”

“I’ll campaign for Fimfim. The recognition he’s given us is like when your name was mentioned in a song during Highlife’s heyday,” the music veteran added. “Fimfim, all the best, man!”

He took issue with the foul language used by Strongman (Dear God) and Lyrical Joe (5th August 7), although he saluted their demonstration of rap talent.

Pointing to the nomination list on his phone, and speaking on authority as “a former Board Member” of the Ghana Music Awards, he underscored the integrity of Ghana’s premiere and topmost music awards scheme, saying, “every nominee is [indeed] a [potential] winner”.

“If you don’t win, just accept it because other factors come in, including voting – it’s business, money will be involved, exchanging money for an award is involved – the board, academy and public will all vote,” Fredyma explained, repeating his vote belongs solely to Fimfim to win.

The founder and CEO of the iconic Fredyma Studios, Pokuase, pointed out that unlike others who choose to use rap to start and promote conflicts and other unhealthy lifestyles, Fimfim chose the noble cause of celebrating the revolutionary Hiplife music. Thus, “I’m going to use my [social media] page to campaign for him,” he stressed.

The award-winning entertainment pundit noted the production of Boasiako was “quality,” “very good,” “showed it was an expensive investment,” and demonstrated Fimfim’s experience and gift as a sound engineer and music producer, as he used “the right tones and instruments” and “the rap flow, and rhyming was so well done”.

Fredyma applauded the orchestral performance given Boasiako, also.
