Nigerian music entrepreneur and rapper Olamide has declared his compatriot Wizkid as the artiste who follows after the country's Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti.

The YBNL boss was hosted at York University, Canada, while on tour.

During a question and answer (Q&A) session, as he engaged students of the institution, the man known as Baddo was asked what his experience was working with Wizkid on his latest project.

"You know that after Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeat artist ever," was Olamide's immediate response.

Rapturous applause ensued among his audience in the lecture hall.

Given Afrobeat originator Fela's position in pop culture and activism, putting Wizkid after him comes as high praise. Olamide is himself a music superstar, adding more weight to the assessment.

Social media went awash with reactions for the remark. While many agreed with Olamide, many others cited Burna Boy, and Davido, especially, as the legitimate greatest of all time.

Music makers, journalists, DJs, and critics, have made a distinction between Afrobeats and Afrobeat, however, explaining that while the latter was created by Fela from the special amalgamation of Jazz, Soul, Highlife, and others, Afrobeat is simply contemporary African pop music combining Highlife, Hiplife, Hiphop, Dancehall, etc. Additionally, Fela's Afrobeat was utilised for socio-political activism, while Afrobeats comes off more hedonistic.

Olamide and Wizkid have several hits together. Their recent successful collaborations are Kai! and Billionaire's Club.
