Buipewura Jinapor II, Energy Minister leads colorful Damba festival in Buipe

The town of Buipe came alive over the weekend as His Royal Majesty Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, led the people of Gonjaland in the celebration of this year’s Damba Festival.

The annual festival, which is deeply rooted in history and tradition, brought together chiefs, families, and communities across Gonjaland and beyond in a vibrant display of culture, unity, and leadership.

The event underscored the values of peace, togetherness, and cultural pride that lie at the heart of the Gonja identity.

The Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency, John Jinapor, who hails from Buipe, joined the festivities and expressed his deep honour at being part of the occasion.

He described the Damba Festival as “more than a celebration — a powerful expression of heritage, leadership, and identity.”He assured them that President John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the Buipe Traditional Area receives its fair share of national development.

This year’s celebration was further enriched by the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including the Minister for Trade and Industry, Miss Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.

Other distinguished guests included the Deputy Minister for Communication Alhaji  Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Yussif Issaka Jajah, Executive Secretary of PURC Dr. Shafic Suleman, and Managing Director of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company, Abdul Rahman Mankir.

In his remarks, MP John Jinapor expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who honoured the invitation, noting that their participation “added great value to the celebration and reaffirmed the importance of promoting our rich cultural heritage at the highest levels of leadership.”
