Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been officially transferred from the 37 Military Hospital to the Bank Hospital in Accra for specialized surgery.

The transfer follows medical discovery that bullet pellets and fragments of shattered glass are currently embedded in her head, dangerously close to her brain.

The former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection shared the medical update with journalists from her hospital bed, following the violent shooting incident on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Ms. Safo explained that initial examinations at the 37 Military Hospital confirmed the presence of the foreign objects, prompting specialists there to recommend her transfer to the Bank Hospital, where a dedicated medical team will perform the extraction procedures to prevent any further neurological or physical complications.

Roots of the Violent Confrontation

The violent clash broke out at a Kwabenya residence linked to her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo (popularly known as Akofena). The incident is deeply tied to a widening succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission after the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.

According to statements from the Kwadwo Safo family, the former lawmaker had arrived at the residence to facilitate the serving of a court injunction. The legal order was intended to block a planned ceremony that would have declared Israel Safo the new leader of the church. The confrontation rapidly escalated, leading to gunfire, extensive damage to Ms Safo’s vehicle, and her subsequent hospitalization.

Former MP Denies 'Hostile Intentions'

In her address to the press, Ms Safo forcefully pushed back against social media narratives accusing her of starting the chaos or arriving at the scene armed.

"I don't own a gun, I didn't shoot a gun and I will never shoot a gun," she stated, adding that she went to her brother’s house entirely alone and without any security detail, viewing the dispute strictly as a private family matter.

She also flatly denied reports claiming she intentionally rammed her vehicle into the estate's gates to force entry. Pointing out that her vehicle is currently held in police custody, she challenged journalists to examine it, maintaining that the structural damage is entirely the result of incoming gunfire rather than a collision.
