Alhaji Seidu Agongo vows to pursue justice for assaulted CMG reporter
Founder of the Class Media Group (CMG), Alhaji Seidu Agongo, has vow to pursue legal action against the Ghana National Fire Service as he express strong outrage over the alleged assault of a Class FM reporter by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). According to him, perpetrators of the attack must be held accountable.
In a statement issued, Alhaji Agongo described the reported attack on journalist Samuel Addo as unacceptable and an assault on press freedom. He stated that the safety of journalists working under the Class Media Group (CMG) banner would not be compromised and insisted that the matter would be pursued relentlessly until justice is served.
According to him, any unlawful conduct by state officers against media practitioners must attract firm consequences, stressing that journalists have the right to carry out their duties without intimidation, harassment or violence.
Alhaji Agongo warned that failure by the appropriate authorities to act decisively would compel the media group to escalate the matter, adding that those involved in the alleged assault must be identified and punished to deter future occurrences.
The incident, which reportedly took place while the journalist was covering a fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market, has sparked public condemnation and renewed debate about the safety of journalists and the conduct of state emergency personnel during operations.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as pressure mounts on both the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service to ensure accountability and uphold the rights of journalists in Ghana.
