The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Anloga, Sandra Seyram Kpedor has appealed to the government, development partners and private investors to support the district with a modern tomato storage facility and increased agricultural investment to enhance production and reduce post-harvest losses.

Her appeal follows the distribution of fertilizers to 30 registered Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs) in the district under a government initiative aimed at improving farmers' access to agricultural inputs.

According to the DCE, although more than 200 farmer-based organisations are registered with the Department of Agriculture in the district, only 30 groups benefited from the fertilizer distribution, underscoring the need for additional support.

"As I said earlier, we have more than 200 farmer-based organisations, and today only 30 groups benefited. We therefore need more fertilizer to support our farmers and increase production," she said.

She noted that Anloga remains one of the leading tomato-producing districts in the Volta Region with tomato farms spread across many communities during the farming season.

"When you come to Anloga at this time of the year, you will see tomatoes everywhere. That shows we are among the best tomato farmers in the region. We need more support to produce more so we can feed our people," she stated.

The DCE further appealed for the construction of a tomato storage facility to help preserve harvested produce, minimise post-harvest losses and improve farmers' incomes.

She also called on local and international investors to invest in the district's vegetable value chain, particularly during the peak production season between September and November.

Madam Kpedor added that increased investment in processing, storage and marketing infrastructure would strengthen the local agricultural economy, create employment opportunities and position Anloga as a major hub for vegetable production in Ghana.

She expressed optimism that with the needed support from government and the private sector, farmers in the district would significantly increase production and contribute to the country's food security agenda.
