A fresh legal battle has erupted within the family of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka as some family members have filed an application at the High Court seeking to stop his planned burial, alleging that the funeral arrangements violate the provisions of his last will and testament.

The suit, filed by members of the Kantanka family, argues that the ongoing preparations for the burial of the Kristo Asafo founder are inconsistent with the wishes he expressed in his will.

The plaintiffs are therefore asking the court to intervene and restrain the organisers from proceeding with the funeral until the matter is fully determined.

According to the applicants, allowing the burial to go ahead under the current arrangements would amount to a breach of the late Apostle's final directives and could undermine the proper administration of his estate.

The latest court action is the newest development in a series of legal disputes that have followed the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo whose estate and succession have been the subject of litigation among members of the family.

Earlier this year, the High Court affirmed Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the lawful successor to the Kantanka Empire in accordance with the late Apostle's will, a ruling that settled one aspect of the succession dispute though not fully as lawyer Adwoa Safo’s counsel refutes the facts.

This however do not necessarily affect Akofena as he is currently seen as the leader of the church, nonetheless, it appears not to have resolved the disagreements over the late Kantanka’s burial arrangements.

The legal challenge comes just days before the scheduled funeral and burial ceremonies, raising uncertainty over whether the planned events will proceed as announced.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs maintain that the court must ensure that the wishes of the late Apostle are respected, insisting that every aspect of his burial should be carried out strictly in line with the provisions of his will.

The respondents are expected to respond to the allegations before the court determines whether to grant an order suspending the burial or allow the funeral arrangements to continue.

Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, was widely celebrated as an inventor, industrialist and religious leader whose contributions to science, technology and manufacturing earned him national recognition. 

His death marked the end of decades of leadership of one of Ghana's most influential indigenous religious movements.

The outcome of the court proceedings is expected to determine whether his burial will proceed as scheduled or be postponed pending the resolution of the dispute.
