The Government of Ghana has reportedly secured about 200 employment opportunities for Ghanaians returning from South Africa as part of measures to support their reintegration following recent xenophobic attacks.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the initiative, describing it as part of the government's commitment to helping the affected citizens rebuild their lives.

“As part of the reintegration initiative, approximately 200 employment opportunities have so far been secured through partnerships with patriotic Ghanaian businesses and private sector organisations," Mr. Ablakwa stated.

He disclosed that Ghanaian mining and engineering firm, Engineers & Planners, has pledged to employ 100 of the returnees while telecommunications companies AirtelTigo and Telecel, together with other private sector organisations, have also committed to offering jobs to those affected.

Mr. Ablakwa explained that the employment package forms part of a broader government reintegration programme designed to assist Ghanaians displaced by the recent xenophobic violence in South Africa. 

He said the initiative is intended to provide returnees with sustainable livelihoods and ease their transition back into society.

The Foreign Affairs Minister added that government will continue to engage more private sector institutions to create additional employment opportunities, reaffirming its commitment to supporting returning Ghanaians beyond their evacuation and helping them regain economic stability.
