Ato Forson picks form to run for fourth term as MP

News
Three-time MP for the Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency, Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, will be seeking a fourth term at the polls.

The opposition MP’s aide, Kobena Mensah, on Friday, 12 July 2019 picked nomination forms on his boss’ behalf at the Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency office of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Forson is the NDC’s longest-serving lawmaker from the Central Region.

He currently shares the record with former Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem MP, Dr Ato Quarshie, who also enjoyed three terms in Parliament.

According to his aide, the former Deputy Finance Minister and Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance is poised to remain the longest-serving MP on the ticket of the NDC in the Central Region.

“Ato Forson, a very energetic, organised professional with diverse and rich experience in accounting, organisational management and business start-up and growth development polled 25,601 votes to beat his closest contender from the NPP who managed 21,903 of the valid votes cast,” in the 2016 elections, recounted Mr Mensah.

He continued: “Since entering Parliament in 2009, he has served as an active member of the Finance Committee of Parliament where he has, over time, distinguished himself as an authority on financial matters. He has demonstrated immense experience and insight into public finance and economic policy issues, thereby making him the trusted voice on the economy from the opposition side of the house.

“He is a highly accomplished and result-driven accountant, entrepreneur and a lawmaker with more than 20 years’ working experience in private, corporate and the public sector.”
