President John Dramani Mahama has officially performed his constitutional mandate by commissioning 11 new Ghanaian envoys to serve as Ambassadors and High Commissioners to various countries across the globe.

The swearing-in ceremony, a colourful yet simple event organised by the Presidency, was held in Accra on Wednesday, October 1.

This follows the granting of agrément (official approval) by the respective host countries throughout September 2025.

Amongst those sworn-in are Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, who spoke to journalists after receiving his letters of credence as the High Commissioner to South Africa.

He expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the honour.

He pledged to hold the flag of Ghana aloft, improve upon bilateral relations, and focus on economic diplomacy to mutually benefit the two countries.

Mr. Quashie noted that the recent resolution to the MultiChoice and the Communications Ministry issue is a testament to economic diplomacy.

"I had earlier said it could be resolved in the boardroom rather than through a public spat," he stated.

Further, he revealed that a proper assessment of the KPIs given to all envoys provides clear guidelines and regulations on how to attract foreign investors to support Ghana's socioeconomic development.

"We will do our best to bring in foreign investment to ensure that our economy grows, creating jobs and opportunities for all," he stressed.

On trade, High Commissioner Quashie noted that South Africa is Ghana's second-largest trading partner.

"We are going to harness that for our mutual benefit," he said, underscoring that he would leverage that relationship to convince South African companies that have folded up due to harsh economic situations to return, citing Ghana's improved economic environment.

All newly sworn-in envoys are non-career diplomats, selected to represent Ghana’s interests abroad under President Mahama's second administration.

Among those commissioned were:

· Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi – Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia

· Mr. Benjamin Anani Quashie – High Commissioner to South Africa

· Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah – Ambassador to Switzerland

· Mr. Kojo Choi – Ambassador to South Korea

· Captain (Rtd.) George Kofi Nfojoh – High Commissioner to Togo

· Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh – High Commissioner to Canada

· Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah – High Commissioner to Namibia

· Dr. Kwame Ampofo – Ambassador to Hungary

· Mr. Magnus Kofi Amoatey – Ambassador to Congo

· Mr. Benedict Batabe Assorow – Ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican)

· Mr. Mohammed Abubakari Manaf – Ambassador to Benin

Each envoy received presidential instruments of commission, officially empowering them to take up their posts and begin their diplomatic duties.

The appointments reflect Ghana’s renewed focus on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing its foreign policy priorities under President Mahama’s leadership.

The envoys are expected to fly Ghana's flag, promoting the country’s political, economic, and cultural interests in their host countries while deepening cooperation and partnerships for mutual development
