Cabinet approves measures to expedite cocoa farmer payments, launch sweeping sector reforms – Felix Kwakye Ofosu
Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that Cabinet has approved measures to expedite payments to cocoa farmers and introduce comprehensive reforms to transform the sector.
The announcement follows an emergency Cabinet meeting focused on challenges in the industry, including payment delays and structural issues.
“We have just concluded a lengthy Cabinet meeting. It was an emergency session that discussed the cocoa sector and matters arising there,” he said.
“At the end of the emergency session, decisive measures have been agreed upon regarding expedited payment of cocoa farmers and the implementation of the most drastic reforms in the cocoa sector, with a view to achieving quantum leaps in domestic processing of cocoa as opposed to exports of raw materials,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated.
He added that reforms will also be carried out at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to improve administration and management.
“If the meeting was not intended to find solutions to the problems we are having now, the meeting would not have been held,” he emphasised, assuring that full details will be provided at the finance minister’s briefing scheduled for Thursday, February 12, 2026.
