Chinese inmate’s escape: Ghana Prisons Service breaks silence
The Ghana Prisons Service has officially acknowledged the escape of a Chinese inmate who was undergoing treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The inmate, originally confined at the Nsawam Prison and serving a one-year jail term, managed to evade custody.
The escape transpired as the inmate purportedly feigned illness, necessitating his transfer from the prison to the hospital.
Unfortunately, he took advantage of the situation and absconded while under the supervision of prison officers.
Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), confirmed the incident during an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
He assured the public that efforts are actively being made to re-apprehend the fugitive.
Mr Adamu revealed that they have acquired valuable leads that are proving effective in their pursuit and emphasized that the incident is currently under thorough investigation.
“We have obtained numerous leads that are proving to be successful in our ongoing efforts,” he stated, highlighting the commitment of the authorities to resolve the matter and bring the escaped inmate back into custody.
