Commonwealth eulogises Herman Chinery-Hesse

The Ghana office of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council has paid tribute to Herman Chinery-Hesse, the pioneering leader in Business and Technology, following his passing on September 16, 2024. Chinery-Hesse, who was often dubbed the "Bill Gates of Africa" by the BBC, played a pivotal role in reshaping West Africa's digital landscape through his trailblazing software company, SOFTtribe.
Dr. John Apea, Head of Mission for the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council in Western Africa, deeply admired Chinery-Hesse’s contributions while speaking in an interview on his passing.
“Herman leaves behind an enviable legacy that will continue to shape Africa’s technological landscape. He was a dynamic, creative, and innovative leader, and it is no wonder that Google celebrated him just days before his passing.
He will be greatly missed by those of us he mentored.”
As the founder of SOFTtribe, Chinery-Hesse transformed the region's technology sector with his innovations, leaving a lasting impact on Africa’s digital future.
