Constitution Review Committee advocates limit on ministerial appointments
The Constitution Review Consultative Committee (CRCC) has proposed a cap on the number of individuals appointed as Ministers in Ghana, suggesting that a maximum of twenty-five (25) people would be sufficient to manage and oversee various sectors in the country.
Miss Kasser-Tee clarified that implementing this cap would involve removing the position of Deputy Ministers from the Constitution.
She added, "Constituencies too should be capped.
“Now we already have 275 with the possibility of 276.
“We don’t need more than 277 constituencies."
When questioned about why there would not be a reduction in the current 275 Members of Parliament, she explained that it was deemed easier to set a cap on the number rather than reducing it.
She added that reducing it will be chaotic.
The CRCC, established to review the report of the Constitution Review Commission and make recommendations to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, has also suggested the removal of the office of Deputy Minister and Regional Ministers.
Miss Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, the Chairperson of the CRCC, emphasised this point during an interview on JoyNews' Newsfile on November 11, 2023.
