Cyber Security Awareness Month: Gov't to establish special courts to handle cybercrime cases, says Comm Min Sam George
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that government is taking steps to establish specialised courts dedicated to handling cybercrime cases.
He explained that the initiative formed part of a broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s legal and institutional frameworks in response to rising cybersecurity threats.
Speaking at the launch of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month in Accra, themed: “Building a Safe Digital Space,” Mr George emphasised the need for stronger enforcement mechanisms.
According to him, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), working with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has arrested hundreds of suspects linked to cybercrime syndicates.
“The Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038), is currently under review to ensure our laws remain robust, forward-looking, and capable of addressing emerging threats,” he disclosed.
The minister further revealed that his ministry was collaborating with the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice to create a specialised court system that will ensure swift prosecution of cybercrime cases.
In addition, he announced plans to establish a Cybersecurity Fund, in line with Sections 29 and 30 of the Cyber Security Act, to provide sustainable financing for cybersecurity initiatives. The fund will support national programmes, protect critical information infrastructure, and build capacity across sectors.
Mr George concluded with a call for a united national effort to strengthen Ghana’s digital resilience and safeguard the country’s expanding digital ecosystem.
