Defence Minister commends Erastus Asare Donkor for anti-galamsey reporting

Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has lauded the work of Erastus Asare Donkor, a journalist with Luv FM in the Ashanti Region, for his continued efforts in exposing illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Dr. Boamah offered a prayer for divine protection and strength for the journalist, whose investigative reports have consistently highlighted the devastating impact of illegal mining on Ghana’s environment.
“May God bless Erastus Asare Donkor for the work he is doing in the fight against galamsey,” the Minister wrote, reaffirming the government’s resolve to combat the menace.
Dr. Boamah also issued a strong warning to individuals and groups engaged in illegal mining, vowing that no enemy of the state destroying the nation’s natural resources will be spared.
“We shall win this battle. No enemy of the State destroying our environment will be spared. We shall defeat them even if it will require disproportionate force,” he declared.
The Defence Minister’s remarks come as the government intensifies efforts to curb illegal mining, which has led to the destruction of farmlands, forests, and water bodies across the country.
Erastus Asare Donkor has gained national recognition for his fearless journalism in the environmental sector, often risking his safety to bring the issue of galamsey to the forefront of public discourse.
