Four arrested in Bawku over killing of couple at Kusanaba
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a minor, over the killing of a husband and wife at Kusanaba in the Bawku West District.
The victims, identified as 45-year-old Apam Azubilla and his 35-year-old wife, Apam Anomsigna, lost their lives after gunmen attacked their home on June 10, 2026.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Monday, June 23, the Police named the suspects as Safianu Salam, Awal Salam, Jawal Salam and a juvenile whose identity has been withheld in accordance with legal requirements.
According to the Police, the suspects were apprehended on June 19 at a hideout in Kugre, near Garu, following intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple were inside their room when four armed assailants allegedly stormed the residence and opened fire on them.
Police said the male victim managed to raise an alarm before collapsing. His brother, Ayubugre Apam, who responded to the distress call, reportedly found the couple critically injured and lying in blood.
The victims were rushed to separate health facilities for emergency treatment. Apam Anomsigna was pronounced dead on arrival at the Zegoyire Health Centre, while her husband later died at the Zebilla District Hospital after being transferred there for further medical attention.
Medical examinations later confirmed that both victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators also disclosed that relatives of the deceased handed over three spent AK-47 ammunition casings recovered from the crime scene to assist with ongoing investigations.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as investigations continue.
