Ga Mantse unveils plans to transform Agbogbloshie Market into a 100,000 stall modern complex
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has announced an ambitious plan to redevelop the iconic Agbogbloshie Market into a modern complex featuring 100,000 stalls in the Greater Accra Region.
The King presented the development proposal to Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo and Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey, emphasising the urgent need to address long-standing issues at the market.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II highlighted that the master plan will tackle congestion, sanitation challenges, and unregulated construction, aiming to create a safer, more organised, and commercially viable environment for traders and shoppers alike.
Regional Minister Linda Ocloo welcomed the initiative, noting that the project aligns with the government’s urban development and modernisation goals for Accra.
Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey also expressed support, pledging collaboration between the municipal authorities and traditional leadership to ensure the project’s success.
Agbogbloshie Market, known for its bustling trade and as a hub for both formal and informal businesses, has long faced challenges related to overcrowding, waste management, and haphazard development.
The proposed transformation is expected not only to modernise the market but also to boost economic activity and improve the quality of life for traders and residents in the area.
The Ga Mantse assured stakeholders that the redevelopment would be carried out in phases, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing market activities while creating a landmark commercial hub in Accra
