Ghana Armed Forces oversee seamless command transition at Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Centre

The Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism and institutional continuity with a smooth transition of leadership at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra.
At a formal ceremony, Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong officially assumed the role of Commandant, taking over from the outgone Major General Richard Addo Gyane.
The change of command was supervised by Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, acting on behalf of the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
The ceremony was marked by military precision and dignity, symbolising the Ghana Armed Forces’ firm adherence to democratic values and structured leadership succession.
In his remarks, Mr Genfi commended both the outgoing and incoming Commandants for their service and leadership, describing the transition as “yet another bold statement by the Ghana Armed Forces on the true meaning of an orderly transition process.”
Major General Gyane, who served with distinction, was lauded for advancing KAIPTC’s mandate as a regional hub for peacekeeping training, research, and capacity building.
His successor, Air Commodore Akrong, brings with him a wealth of operational and strategic experience expected to deepen the Centre’s impact on peace and security efforts across Africa.
The ceremony brought together senior military officers, diplomats, staff of the KAIPTC, and invited guests, all of whom witnessed the formal handing over of the command baton—a tradition that reinforces the values of discipline, respect for hierarchy, and seamless continuity within the Ghana Armed Forces.
KAIPTC, named in honour of the late UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, continues to play a crucial role in shaping Africa’s peacekeeping architecture, with strong support from the Government of Ghana and international partners.
