Ghanaian ambassador participates in International Sankofa Conference 2026 in Brazil
His Excellency Nii Amasah Namoale represented Ghana at the International Sankofa Conference 2026, held in Bahia and São Paulo, Brazil, from February 12 to 17.
The conference celebrated the enduring ancestral, cultural, spiritual, political, and institutional ties linking Brazil and the African continent.
At the gathering, participants embraced the meaning of Sankofa—“returning to our roots”—to reclaim the wisdom, resilience, and vision that shape collective progress.
The conference brought together scholars, diplomats, community leaders, and diaspora representatives to strengthen African-Brazilian relations through dialogue, reflection, and collaborative initiatives.
Ambassador Namoale called for a bold, heritage-driven approach to future partnerships, stressing unity and shared commitment as critical to building sustainable development and lasting solidarity between Africa and its global diaspora.
On the second day of the conference, a major milestone was marked with the inauguration of the Community Media Centre – ÁS Comunicação Integrada.
The opening ceremony highlighted efforts to strengthen local communication, foster creativity, and deepen community engagement.
Community leaders, media practitioners, youth representatives, and other stakeholders attended the event to witness the official launch.
The Ambassador also visited Casa de Oxumarê, one of Bahia’s most prominent Afro-Brazilian religious temples, where he granted an exclusive interview to TV Kirimurê, the first Black woman–led television station in Bahia.
In his remarks, Ambassador Namoale reflected on the historical and cultural connections between the Tabom community in Accra and the people of Bahia, emphasising the shared heritage and enduring bonds that continue to unite Ghana and Brazil.
The International Sankofa Conference 2026 served as both a celebration of African roots and a platform for reinforcing collaborative pathways in culture, education, media, and sustainable development between Africa and its diaspora.
