President John Dramani Mahama has announced the introduction of key performance indicators (KPIs) as a historic innovation to guide the work of Ghana’s missions abroad, ensuring alignment with national priorities.

He said he would “personally monitor” the assessment.

He spoke during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed high commissioners and ambassadors in Accra, tasking the envoys to make economic diplomacy the centerpiece of their mandate, projecting the country as a land of opportunity and innovation on the global stage.

“These KPIs are not mere bureaucratic tools. They are instruments to ensure that every action taken by our missions contributes directly to advancing Ghana’s national priorities. I will personally monitor progress as part of our commitment to results-oriented diplomacy,” he said.

Outlining the government’s Reset Agenda, which he described as the blueprint to restore hope, rebuild trust, and drive inclusive prosperity, President Mahama charged the envoys to extend this agenda globally by forging partnerships, attracting investments, and strengthening Ghana’s role in international affairs.

He reiterated Ghana’s enduring foreign policy principles of Pan-Africanism, peaceful co-existence, and justice but underscored the need for a more agile and innovative diplomacy in response to global shifts in geopolitics, economics, and technology.

“I expect you to be vanguards of Ghana’s economic diplomacy. Let your missions become dynamic hubs of export promotion, investment attraction, tourism marketing, diaspora mobilisation, and innovation,” the president emphasised.

Mr Mahama reminded the envoys that their responsibilities extended beyond representation, calling for strong leadership, fairness in administration, and ethical stewardship of resources.

The president noted the appointments were a mark of confidence in the envoys’ years of service and contributions in both the public and private sectors. He stressed that their assumption of duty came at a pivotal moment when measurable results and accountability must define Ghana’s foreign service.
