Gov't suspends implementation of National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118)

Government has decided to suspend the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118) to allow for further stakeholder engagement, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced.
It would be recalled that in July 2024, Parliament passed into law Act 1118 aimed at streamlining the management of Ghana's road infrastructure by merging the existing road institutions namely - The Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads, into a unified structure for better management and coordination.
"The decision to suspend the implementation of the NRA Act is as a result of the Government's commitment to addressing major concerns raised by some key stakeholders," a statement by the ministry dated February 7, 2025, signed by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Nasir Ahmad Yartey, explained.
"The Ministry reassures the public of its commitment to streamlining operations and enhancing coordination in the road sector."
