The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has announced the government’s commitment to construct 16 shelters across the country to provide care and support for vulnerable groups, including the aged, victims of abuse, and survivors of human trafficking.

Speaking to the media during the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Accra, Dr. Lartey explained that the allocation of the shelters will be guided by data and statistics to address specific needs in different regions.

According to her, this approach will ensure that resources are distributed effectively to protect and support those who are most at risk.

The Minister highlighted that part of the initiative will focus on aged care homes, stressing their importance in promoting longevity, social engagement, and purposeful living among seniors.

She noted that such interventions will not only improve the well-being of the aged but also encourage them to remain active contributors to society.

Dr. Lartey reiterated that the initiative reflects the government’s resolve to fulfil its manifesto promises and uphold its social contract with the people of Ghana by safeguarding the rights and dignity of vulnerable populations.
