Hajj 2026: PAOG closes payments with immediate effect to prevent over-subscription

News
Hajj is an essential journey for Muslims, being part of their devotion to Allah

The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the immediate closure of payments for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage as part of measures to effectively manage pilgrim numbers and ensure a smooth and well-coordinated exercise.

According to PAOG, the decision is aimed at preventing over-subscription, a recurring challenge that has, in previous years, resulted in administrative backlogs and operational difficulties during Hajj operations.

The office explained that closing payments at this stage will help align the number of confirmed pilgrims with Ghana’s approved quota for the 2026 pilgrimage, a move it considers critical to the success of the exercise.

“Managing pilgrim numbers within approved limits remains essential to delivering a safe, efficient, and successful Hajj,” PAOG stated.

PAOG further emphasized that the decision was taken in the best interest of both prospective pilgrims and the nation, to ensure that all individuals who have completed payment are successfully processed and airlifted to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, members of the public, particularly intending pilgrims who were unable to complete their payments before the closure, have been advised to make preparations for subsequent Hajj arrangements.

The office also cautioned the public to be vigilant and wary of individuals or groups claiming they can facilitate participation in this year’s pilgrimage despite the closure of payments, warning that such claims may be fraudulent.

PAOG reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and efficient management of Ghana’s Hajj operations and urged the public to rely only on official communications for accurate information.
