IGP, Health Minister receive DNA results confirming identities of helicopter crash victims

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tetteh Yohuno and Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh received DNA test results from South Africa confirming the identities of victims of last week’s fatal Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash.
The DNA analysis was conducted to formally identify the remains of the eight individuals who died when a military Z-9 helicopter went down during an official flight to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The confirmed victims include two cabinet ministers — Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC and former Regional Minister
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force
Flight Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Ghana Air Force
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force
Authorities say the identification process was necessary due to the condition of the remains, which made visual recognition impossible.
The results pave the way for the release of the bodies to families for funeral arrangements.
