The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reminded personnel of the Ghana Police Service to uphold human rights and adhere strictly to the rule of law as policing activities are stepped up across the country.

He gave the advice on Thursday, January 8, during a ceremony to commission 100 new patrol vehicles for the Service. Mr Yohuno said the government’s continued provision of logistics reflects trust in the Police Service’s leadership and mandate, a confidence that must be justified through disciplined, professional conduct.

He emphasized that increased police presence and improved mobility should be accompanied by responsible behaviour, noting that enforcement duties must always be carried out with respect for citizens’ rights. He added that the newly commissioned vehicles should be seen as resources for serving the public rather than instruments of authority.

The IGP assured Ghanaians that the development reinforces the Police Service’s resolve to protect lives, property and the security of the nation.

He also appealed to the public to work closely with the police by providing useful information, cooperating with officers in the line of duty and supporting legitimate policing efforts.

Addressing citizens, Mr Yohuno said the additional vehicles are meant to strengthen safety and security nationwide and reaffirm government’s commitment to protecting democratic values. He stressed that maintaining security requires collaboration, adding that it is a collective responsibility shared between the police and the public.
