Kwame Agbodza warns contractors: Submit work plans or risk payment cuts
Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has cautioned road contractors that poor performance and failure to comply with approved work schedules could result in deductions from their contract payments.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing road projects at Atimpoku as part of his nationwide monitoring tour of the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions, Mr Agbodza said contractors are expected to submit detailed technical work plans outlining project timelines, construction phases and key milestones.
He stressed that government will only honour payment certificates for work that has been completed, verified and approved by the Ministry, adding that the new approach is intended to strengthen accountability and ensure value for public expenditure.
The Minister warned that contractors who consistently fall behind schedule without justification or fail to demonstrate measurable progress during site inspections could face financial penalties.
According to him, any contractor who receives payment but fails to deliver work in line with the agreed programme risks having portions of subsequent payments withheld or deducted.
Mr Agbodza further noted that contractors who improve their performance and meet the required standards will be assessed based on the quality and progress of work executed.
He said the stricter monitoring regime forms part of the Ministry's efforts to enforce discipline within the road sector, improve project delivery and ensure infrastructure contracts are executed efficiently and on schedule.
