Lands Minister inspects reclaimed mining site at Manso Adubia
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inspected a reclaimed mining site at Manso Adubia in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, where land previously degraded by illegal mining activities has been restored to safe and productive use.
The inspection was carried out alongside the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, as part of ongoing efforts to address the environmental impact of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
The reclaimed site is the result of a partnership between the Government of Ghana and Newmont Ghana Limited, which has supported land restoration and rehabilitation initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and community development.
The visit, according to officials, reflects the practical implementation of President John Dramani Mahama’s 'Reset Agenda', which places strong emphasis on environmental restoration, the protection of critical national infrastructure, and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods for affected communities.
Speaking during the inspection, the Lands Minister highlighted the importance of reclaiming degraded lands to restore ecological balance and create alternative economic opportunities for local residents.
He noted that responsible mining practices and effective partnerships with the private sector are essential in the fight against illegal mining and its environmental consequences.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Amoakohene, also commended the collaboration with Newmont Ghana Limited, describing the reclaimed site as evidence that degraded lands can be restored with the right commitment and resources.
Government officials say similar reclamation projects will continue across mining-affected areas as part of broader efforts to safeguard Ghana’s environment and ensure the sustainable management of natural resources.
