Mahama announces Cashew Development Board to revamp industry

President John Dramani Mahama has announced bold plans to revitalise Ghana’s cashew industry with the establishment of a Cashew Development Board.
The initiative, unveiled during his “Thank You” tour of the Bono Region, aims to transform the sector into a major economic driver through coordinated reforms and strategic investments.
The proposed board will oversee cashew production, processing, and pricing, with a focus on ensuring fair returns for farmers and boosting Ghana’s competitiveness in the global cashew market.
“This board will not only streamline the entire cashew value chain but will also give farmers the recognition and support they deserve,” President Mahama stated.
“Our goal is to make Ghana a leading cashew exporter while improving livelihoods across farming communities.”
The President’s visit to the Bono Region was both a gesture of gratitude for the region’s support in the 2024 general elections and a reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling key campaign promises.
As part of the broader initiative, the government is expected to collaborate with the private sector to establish cashew processing plants across the region.
This value-addition strategy is aimed at increasing exports, creating jobs, and attracting investment into the agro-processing sector.
Stakeholders in the region welcomed the announcement, describing it as a significant step toward unlocking the full potential of Ghana’s cashew industry.
