Malawi Defence Force delegation visits Ghana’s Defence Ministry to study regional security strategies

A 29-member delegation from the Malawi Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College has paid a study tour to Ghana’s Ministry of Defence to familiarise themselves with Ghana’s strategic approach in combating transnational organised crime and enhancing regional security.
The delegation was warmly received by the Principal General Staff Officer at the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Ben Gah, who welcomed them on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi.
In his welcome remarks, Brigadier General Gah commended the Malawi Defence Force for choosing Ghana as a model for strategic defence learning, noting that Ghana’s experience in regional peacekeeping and its multi-sectoral approach to tackling transnational threats serve as a benchmark for many African nations.
He further highlighted Ghana’s commitment to promoting stability within the West African sub-region through collaborative defence diplomacy, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building initiatives under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) framework.
The visit formed part of the Malawian officers’ academic programme, aimed at exposing them to practical models of military-civil coordination and regional cooperation in security management.
The delegation is expected to engage with senior officials and institutions within Ghana’s security architecture to gain insights into the country’s defence policy formulation and operational frameworks.
Leaders of the Malawi delegation expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and regional ties in pursuit of peace, stability, and collective security across Africa.
The visit underscores the growing importance of inter-African military collaboration in addressing shared challenges such as terrorism, piracy, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes that threaten the continent’s security and development
