The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, will on Monday, June 22, 2026, hold a series of events to commemorate what would have been the 79th birthday of the party’s founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings.

The events will be held under the theme, “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.”

A major highlight of the programme will be the naming of the NDC’s national headquarters after the late former President and the unveiling of a bust in his honour.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9 AM at the party’s headquarters in Accra and will be led by President John Dramani Mahama. Other senior party officials are also expected to address the gathering.

Later in the day, a public lecture and exhibition will be held at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra.

The keynote address will be delivered by lawyer and academic Tsatsu Tsikata. Other speakers include Dr Akwasi Opong Fosu and Kofi Totobi Quakyi.

The exhibition will feature photographs, documents and memorabilia highlighting Rawlings’ life, political career and contributions to Ghana’s democratic development.

Rawlings founded the NDC in 1992 and served as Head of State under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) before becoming President under the Fourth Republic, serving two constitutional terms.

In a statement signed by the NDC’s Deputy National Communications Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, the organisers invited party members, supporters, cadres and the general public to participate in the events and honour the legacy of the late former President.
