NE/R: IGP Yohuno deploys reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian T. Yohuno, has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its environs in the North East Region, following the setting ablaze of two houses by some youth in the regional capital Nalerigu and threats to burn more houses and attack citizens of the town.
"The deployment is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and beefing up security in the affected communities as well as enforcing the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government," a police statement explained.
"The teams will also support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security on the highways to ensure safety of commuters."
Police assured the public, and the people of Nalerigu in particular, that investigations into the attacks and burning of the houses were ongoing and that persons involved will be arrested and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, government has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu and its surrounding areas.
