New Regions: C'ttee probes Salaga violence
News
The minister-designate for the Savannah Region, Salifu Adams Braimah, has said a committee has been set up to investigate the violence that broke out in Salaga following the naming of Damongo as the capital for the newly-created region in February 2019.
According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring a long-term solution to violent protests in the area.
It will be recalled that some youth affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Salaga torched the party’s office and destroyed property after Damongo was announced as the regional capital.
Mr Braimah told the Appointments Committee of Parliament when he appeared for vetting on Tuesday, 19 March 2019 that: “We all must take it upon ourselves to educate our people that burning is not the way to go. Fortunately, the Regional Minister is here, he has set up a committee, the security agencies are handling it [and] if I am passed, I hope it will be part of the handing over notes that will be handed over to me”.
